Trip to Shoe Creek and Big Levels in Western VA

Yesterday I went with the club I belong to to Shoe Creek and Big Levels. It was a blast and I got alot of wheeling in. There was only one obstacle that I tried and didn't complete and that is the one in the pics where the blue Frontier broke (obviously, I went more to the left but I couldn't get any grip. I needed more aggressive tires and a locker. I should have vid sometime for that). Here are the pics, feel free to ask me any questions if you have them. I'm uploading vids right now and will post those soon as well. Images are clickable:

Awesome,
I used to hunt Big Levels and fish on Shoe Creek growing up. Did you get to see the big town of Montebello! Brings back memories.

Thanks guys!

We didn't really get time to get around any of the local areas other than the trails. We got to SC about 11:30 and goofed around in there till almost 5 and then headed for BL where it promptly got dark and our leader (who claimed he knew the trail well) promptly got us lost. Most of Big Levels was done at about 35 mph with much cb banter about the dude getting us lost. It was fun though and we got back to 81 about 9 and I got back to Richmond at 11. I have some vids too that I forgot to put up.. I will get those up today or tomorrow.

Nice pictures.

What are these guide lines or wires used for? Is that for the brush?

damage is such a harsh word...more like re-arranged. LOL

We need to wheel when you get back.

Pretty capable. We had some stock ones, middle of the road ones, and some pretty heavily modded ones. Here are the vids I kept forgetting to post:

I have some vids of me trying to get up that obstacle in those last few vids but they are movs and I haven't found a good way to host them yet. I wasn't able to make it (and is why my locker should be here tomorrow ). That yellow '05 X only has a 3" SL and 33s is otherwise stock drivetrain wise and you see how easy he went up that obstacle (and that thing was alot gnarlier than it looks in the pics and vids). They have a reputation for weak front diffs though so that guy has since traded it on a new Wrangler Unlimited because he wants to wheel more and wanted something that he could fully trust and be easier to fix. The first gen Xs are alot tougher though. That black X has a 3+2 lift on 35" MTRs and is fully ARB locked with 392:1 TC gears. It does very well to say the least (for still having IFS). That SASed Frontier is just sick though. It's a shame the only vid I got was him getting hung up on that rock as he went over all kinds of wicked stuff all day and that was the only snag.

I will admit I have had about every brand, including a 1993 Pathfinder, so I don't mind the Nissans a bit. Also, being in this club has raised my respect for the Xterras and Frontiers alot.

I bounced my rear bumper off of rocks all day. I dunno what it is about that place and rear bumpers. I have a nice big dent in the bottom of mine now from that trip (it does hang pretty low though). I need to get rid of that bumper and do a hight clearance one.

Thanks man! Yeah, I'm hoping to wheel alot more next year. Looks like my next outing will be Crozet Jan 6th because until then I have to straighten out some stuff on the truck and I'm pretty busy with work. I will probably post up on the regional ttora forum when I plan to wheel and hopefully hit a few of their events too.

Hope to wheel with ya sometime!
