New Suspension/Lift

Hey im almost 16 and just got me a 97 4runner Limited w/ around 114k miles that ive been lovin. But it does need a few fixes. The last and most expensive fix i need to do is to change the suspension. right now, i the suspension seems to bottoms out unnaturally easily making it very rough over speed bumps even at a very slow speed. While I am at it, i figure i'll go ahead and do a slight lift(possibly 1-1.5" as i will be on fairly small tires) so im looking for a good yet not too expensive package that will give me new suspension and a slight lift. Any help will be great. Thanks

Cheapest/best lift IMHO is the Old Man Emu (OME) shocks/struts.

thanks yall. The system 3 looks alright but will i see much a change besides height from stock? Right now my problem is the bottoming out suspension so will this suspension do the same thing? Also the 2" lift that system 3 seems a tad to high for me on my not so large tires.

Should i be worried about this paragraph posted on the sonoransteel site(as i do have a 2WD):

10. I want to lift my 2WD 4Runner. 2WD vehicles have a different transmission with a slip yoke, not a slip shaft like a 4WD 4Runner. If you get vibrations in the rear after the lift on a 2WD you will need to have a local drive line shop lengthen your rear drive shaft. It would be wise to mark the slip yoke at the transmission to see how far it pulls out, so they know how long to extend it. This is not an issue with a 4WD 4Runner as they have not only Double CV fixed shafts, but the shaft itself has plenty of slide in it for lifting to 3.5". These kits are not optimized for a 2WD 4Runner and due to the transmission and slip yoke, your options are limited.

As for the OEM set, could you possibly link me to some kind of full set? I searched but had a hard time finding the exact set i would need. thanks

Yeah, if you're only wanting 1-1.5" of lift and don't want to spend a lot of money, then I'd just get either a set of PP springs or a set of '99 4wd springs.

Maybe throw some spacers in there too.

me and Erik Jeana both have 2wds, mine is locked however but mine is lifted 3 inchs, I have a 2 inch BL coming to me real soon. Driveshaft doesnt matter.

yeah if you do 99 springs it will be 1.5 inchs over stock because 99 springs were 1 inch over 96,97,98, 01-02 4wd and the 4wds had a half inch over 01-02 2wds

Any you lift the truck with springs/spacers, not a bracket lift, will increase your distance to bottoming out by the lift amount. The new springs/shocks will also provide better dampening. With 1-1/2 - 2" you will be fine on stock tires, wheel well will have a little more room but not silly amounts.

thnks again. Some mentioned just changing the coils to achieve a slight lift. But in actuallity, the main reason for this change is to fix my bottoming out suspension problem. I looked more into the OME coil set and it looks to be exactly what im looking for but it seems like it creates a tad bit more lift than i intend. any way around that? or should i just get something else? thanks one more time and please keep in mind the man reason behinf all this is to get a more comfortable ride that doesn't bottom out extremely often. the very slight lift is just a bonus
