Strange Observations re Spiral Cell battery (Champion XLT DT34)

Guys,

I purchased a Champion XLT DT34 Spiral Cell battery today from Sam's Club.

First off, its not a direct fit. I had to temporarily put a piece of thick cardboard in the battery tray to get it to the "right" OEM height.

Second, after installation, I fired it up. It doesn't have that "sharp" crank. I imagine b/c its a spiral cell but can someone tell me if that is a characteristic of spiral cells?

The third thing I noticed (and most troubling) is that my 4runner idles alot lower! It used to idle at 1,200-1500 rpm but now its under 1,000. Any guesses here?

Thanks and I'm going out for sushi tonite. See you guys in a few hours!

It's supposed to idle at 700 rpms once it's warm so you may need to clean your TB or check to see if you have too much tension on your throttle cable where it adjusts on the plenum. Your abnormally (for you) low idle may be because the battery's not fully charged. If the alternator is being fully used at idle it will lower the rpms of the motor.

1500 seems kinda high, but I don't know how 3rd gens idle. Mine idles at about 700-900, but sometimes down to 500.
