Funk looks cool. Retro funk, when done right, looks really cool. Retro funk done right that's totally functional is beyond cool; it wins. When the folks at Toyota decided to recreate their first really successful model in the States, the FJ40 Land Cruiser, they chose to come up with something modern that was as close to the original's design and purpose as possible. They succeeded mightily. The FJ Cruiser is extremely reminiscent of the original, both outside and in. It's also true to the original's unstoppable off-road abilities and affordability. The FJ Cruiser is strongly utilitarian, but it also subtly blends such modern necessities as airbags, ABS, traction control, a locking center differential, and an effective heater and air conditioner into its rough-hewn body.
