I just picked up a total chaos suspension for my 1990 4runner, and am trying to figure out what fiberglass fenders to use with it. I am running 33x12.5 bfg muds on rims with about 4 1/2" of backspacing. I have been looking at the hanneman and glassworks unlimited fenders. I'm not sure I like the flattop look on some of the fenders, so I am trying to find out if a fender with less bulge, like 4" vs. 5" and the non flat-top will work. Does anyone else have a similar setup or experience with fitment of this setup?

Fiberglass is never a perfect fit, from what I have seen. But, they are usually pretty close. I believe it is the nature of the material. Fiberglass will soften up when it is warm. So if you just install it cold it will not really conform very well. But if you let it sit in the sun for a few hours before installing it, it will take shape to your vehicle much better. Often times, slight trimming is required.

If you want perfect lines, stick with sheet metal, but good luck finding anything other than stock.

 

Yes, they are. Check out the fiberglass thread on Pirate4x4... there are pics of a lot of the manufacturers products and the poor fitment. toyotafiberglass.com has nearly perfect-fitting components.

 

Lol believe me, lines don't bother me, most of the other pics I've seen including yours look great...just don't like my corner lamps sticking past the grill

I have the flat top downeys and like em. now i just need the LT to go with it...of course first i need to cage the engine so i might as well just cage to whole truck and if doing the bed i might as well LT that first but while its all apart....

wow i like the fiberglass wide rear end....If i could find something like that to fit my 4runner and pick up with out taco tails id be interested. I need a hood on my truck and runner and fenders on one so....anyone got some ideas? Front and rear need to match for me to be happy. You can pm me so we dont take over the thread.

Fiberglass never looks perfect tho and theres a lot of prep work involved with it to make it straight. 90% of body kits are done so fast quality goes out the window. The last fiberglass bumper i did i had to cut re make some pieces glass it all back together filler on a bunch...lots of block work even with the primer and it still was not perfect. I like the idea of it cause i dont want the rust or dings

I just saw a 2nd gen runner for sale the other day with LT and it had the whole fiberglass front from a tacoma (hood and fenders). Looked pretty cool, although the whole thing was pretty much beat to s#$@. I didn't have my camera, but I will snap a pic next time I see it. It is parked right next to the tile store I use.

 

I have the Glassoworks fenders and I'm looking at getting them professionally installed because I don't have the skills to shape it right.

It sucks, but that's the way it is with glass.

 

I've worked with moulded fiberglass panels for years and have yet to see a set that didn't need to be tweaked one way or another. In the process of removing a fender from a mould many things happen afterwards, the part warps and shrinks, that plus the fact that each vehicle has minor differences in fit.
