New muffler installed, low end torque lost. questions.

Brought my magnaflow to budget brake. Well here are pics of the installation... let me know what you think about this installation... copule of my friends are tellin me to take it back and get my money back.

thanks guys,

Alex

edit: to me it looks like they expanded the 2.25" pipe from the muffler to go over the stock 2.25" piping and just left it as is... also when at WOT it sounds like it's revving in 2nd gear.

I just went through a whole big deal with my exhaust also. Total nightmare. A couple of things I learned are that the stock pipe is not exactly 2.25" and most of the piping is not perfectly round either.

I bought a 2.25" Gibson muffler and then cut out my stock one. The piping on the new muffler and the stock piping were exactly the same size so I could not slide one onto the other. So I got the muffler pipes expanded to fit but then the stock pipes not being round made for a terrible fit.

Long story short I had a custom 2.25 tailpipe made and hung and all the joints welded together.

From your pics I would absolutley take it back and have it fixed correctly.
The first thing I see wrong is that they used a clamp instead of welding the inlet of the muffler. This will leak both fumes and water from the cats.

Then the outlet looks unwelded and it looks like they used a coupler to make it fit.

I have found that if you take it back and are calm but stern they will make it right but if they will not try telling them that if they do not fix it you will take it somewhere else and have that shop fix their work. Sometimes that will get them to do it because they don't want another shop seeing their crappy work. On the other hand it may not have this effect and they may say fine take it there.

Keep us posted

magnaflow 12255, 18" body and 8"x5" oval. sounds awesome, thought it was too quiet at first but had my friend drive around while i listened outside, very happy with the sound, just not sure about the performance right now.

alex,

man, that defies the word "hack job". as said above, be polite but be be firm in a refund

even if done right, a free flow muffler will decrease backpressure which means at the low end, you will lose torque but gain HP at the high end

Just deckplate and ISR. Went to the muffler shop and was nice about, they turned around and got PO'd and said if im having troubles it has to do with the muffler. So after work, i'm taking it to be done at another place. I'm pretty rattled about this righ tnow

P.S. thanks for the correction elton

The performance issues are likely an effect of the muffler. However the hack-tastic piping job is all them!

Sorry you had bad luck with that shop. Word of mouth negative advertising for them will have some effect on the shop. Just tell your friends to beware of the lack of quality coming out of that shop and be done with them.

That sucks but hopefully you get it straight at the next shop.

BTW now that my Gibson is all set up it really sounds nice and mellow. No droning at hwy speeds.
