Shovel mount for FJ Cruisers stock rack

On my FJ Cruisers rack I have installed the Yakima 10V Mighty Mounts to hold the Slee Hi-Lift holder.

What I want to do is use some Yakima horizontal mounts so I can mount the old shovel I used to the top of my rack like I did to the side of the rack on the 4Runner.

The horizontal mounts will sit on the top slats of the FJ like it does for the Hi-Lift, but the holes in it will be aligned pointing straight up so a shovel with holes in the shaft can be placed on the bolts and secured to it.

Now here is where it gets confusing, as Yakima has many horizontal mounts as seen here.
http://www.rackoutfitters.com/store/...?idCategory=81

Horizontal mounts 14 through 28 all look the same!
But you can see how the holes point up, perfect for running a long bolt up from the bottom, then secure it with a lock washer and nut.

Then you place the shovel on top, push down, then use the Yakima plastic wing nuts like I used on the 4Runner to then secure the shovel tightly.

Anyone familiar with the Yakima Mighty Mounts know if it matters which one of the Horizontal mounts I order?

They really do all look the same

id ask yakima which one is closest to the 10v ones you used. im sure there are differences jsut they didnt bother taking a picture of each and every one . or you could pop for the expensive universal ones.

Yeah, to bad they do not list a 10H, that would work.

Gonna mount the bandi mount tonight?
I sure get a lot of gawking at the antenna back there mounted to it.
Probably because it looks factory.

all mounted up , and i finally sold my 4runner, so now i have ot wait till monday to deposit the money and order all my goodies for the fj.

on the list is :
fab four winch bumper
trd exhaust- from fjcrusieroffroad.com
locking gas cap- from above
wheel locks- from above
and a trac button- from above
non reservoir 3 inch lift front coilovers and rear coil spacers - from all pro
rock rails - from all pro
33x12.5x17 coopper stt's - local tire factory

ill be using the stock wheels until i can affod the wheel tire combo i want.

and eventually , i will be having all my wiring done by the local car toys , including routing the cb antennea wire and wiring cb, wiring a hot lead and ground wire with a weather proof quick connect to the roof rack ( so i can remove yakima loadwarrior basket with offroad lights ) and the wiring forthe bumper lights on the new bumper.
id do it all myself but its jsut too new of a rig to start tearing apart the interior myself, plus im hoping the car toys guys have a plan for the hot lead tothe roof .

sorry i jacked the thread.

Do you know if the crossbars are the same size as on the 3rd gen 4runner? In that case you should need 24H. I can recheck on my 4runner when I get home again, but this is acc. to yakimas "choose my rack" on their website. This site unfortunately seems to point to the universal mighty mounts for the FJ so perhabs none of the 14-28 will fit.

Carsten, just spoke with Yakima, and of course they were clueless.
He said the only one that fits the rack slats on the FJ Cruiser is the universal one.

I had to set his straight and tell him that Slee Off Road turned me onto the 10V mounts to mount his Hi-Lift mounts with.
I asked Yakima what they had that was the the same shape and size as the 10V mounts, and he did not want to recommend anything, and swore up and down only the universal ones fit.
I said you wanna see my pics as proof?

He then said to try the 23H mount, so that is what I have on order.
Should be here Thursday, so I will rip open the box then and try a quick fit to see if they do indeed fit.

If so, this will open up a lot of custom stuff to be mounted up there.

Lowes hardware.
They have some fiberglass handled ones on their site, but I do not see mine there anymore on line.

Thanks.

I am having a ball with this thing, and I have not even had it off road yet
I can not wait to get it out, but I already know what is is capable of doing.

Just taking my time getting a few mods done before I get it off road.
Next up on the list is a 3" OME lift, ARB bumper, and my old winch from the 4Runner.

Hopefully only a few more weeks.
Waiting on a batch of bumpers coming from the land down under to arrive here.

Corey, I don't know how far you are from an REI but you could go there and check out a few different sizes of mighty mount in the packing lot (their return policy is excellent) if the one you ordered doesn't fit.

Well, just a teaser.
My 23H mounts came today, and I am happy to report they work with the FJ Cruiser rack perfectly!

It is raining in my garage right now, so I can not finish tonight to get more pics.
I also need to buy two long bolts tomorrow, the ones from when I ran the system on my 4Runner, the bolts are bent.

Also ran into this today.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/fj/shovel/DSC00005.JPG

The top slats are to far apart, and they do not line up with the holes in the fiberglass shaft.
They need to be far apart for the Hi-Lift jack, and also they do not move to well, as the rack widens.
They are pretty much stuck in that spot.

I have a fix, I have two more slats I took off the rack a month back.
It will not fit in between, but it will up front in front of the other one that is closest to the front.

I kind of wanted the shovel back aft, but it will work out better up front, I can access it by standing on the sliderz when the time comes to take it down if needed.

So tomorrow after I get two new bolts, and other slat mounted, I will get some pics of the finished product.
I wanted to post the info tonight though that the 23H mounts are the correct ones.

I will update this thread tomorrow with a link to my mods thread where the finished pics will be.
