So here's the thing...In 2nd gear, I don't get good hard acceleration till I hit about 2500-3000 rpm. Then the sucker just takes off. There is definitely a noticeable difference between from off the line to hi rpm's. Now, do you think that would be due more to a clogged fuel filter or fuel injectors? Do fuel filters need to be changed after 100K+ miles, or are they, as the dealer says, "bulletproof"? Is there any kind of diagnostic for the injectors that i can do, besides having it done at the dealer and getting ripped off?

Side note: if anyone knows, do the guys at Doxon Toyota in Auburn do good work for swappin' out the tranny fluid for synthetic?

 

That doesnt sound like a problem to me. It sounds like the torque curve of your engine.

Have had the runner for about 2.5 years now. I have noticed this for ever. It's never been a huge issue with me till now...now that I want to make everything better. I just don't want to be ripped off by the dealer when he tells me that its gonna cost 150 bux to diagnose my rig and more to fix the problem.

 

My 90's the same way; feels like a turbo kicks in above 2500rpm.
If you keep these engines wound up, they pull pretty well. Just getting to that point can be slow.
You might try the intake mod listed here; that might help the low end power band. I haven't gotten to that yet.

I've replaced my fuel filter twice, once when I first got it and then about 60k later. Never noticed any performance improvement, but I like to keep those maintenance items in good shape.

I recently used Redline S1 fuel system cleaner. Even though I run premium gas, I still noticed easier acceleration and better mileage after running the S1. It's not expensive either, $5/bottle direct from Redline.

Yeah, a good injector clean might help. I hear the bottle types dont work too well (in the fuel tank) instead, the kind that bolts to the rail is supposed to work best.

 

What do you mean by 'bolts to the rail'?

 

Apparently they have a system that bolts on to the fuel rail, and pumps detergent thru the injectors while the engine is running.

I have no first hand experience with this type of system, but I keep hearing great things about them.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I may have butchered it a bit.

I dont even know if this will work on the 3.0...

 

Well, seein' as how its not the biggest problem ever, I'll try the redline fuel system cleaner first. Found it for $6.25/bottle at B&B Auto (not toooo bad, but still a cheaper solution). So if that doesn't work, I'll try to find out a little more about this bolt on system yer talkin bout and try that. Thanks for the info fellers.
