Need help accessing wireless internet...

OK, my laptop is really giving me problems. I am having to tpye this from my desktop because I can't get my laptop to access my home signal.
I was down in New Orleans last week & used my laptop fine.
Now I'm home & my laptop is trying to access the signal from an internet cafe I went to, (but it worked fine for the last 4 days) WTF?

When I try to configure the connection, It says Windows cannot configure this wireless connection.(why?) It was working fine until yesterday. I even tried to change the order of preferred networks & can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Help, please!

Need more info...

Do you know your SSID? Is it unique? It's not getting mixed up with others, is it (such as "linksys" or "default")?

Is it set to broadcast or not?

Do you have WEP or WPA enabled?

Try removing all wireless profiles from the router (the SSID's under Preferred Networks) and start over. Don't worry, at the very extreme we can hard reset the router and will work then, assuming your wireless card is ok.

OK, I got it to work, now I feel like a total dork. I turned the wireless router off & turned it back on...viola- signal back. Why would it do that?

SOHO routers are notorious for that. The internals just get "frozen up" every now and then... especially after leaving it idle for a while. It's nothing new, and considered acceptable practice (sadly).

BTW Chris, I was in Hattiesburg last week & should have looked you up. I was looking for work in MS & LA. There was plenty of work but housing was outrageous.

You should've! Let me know if you need a realtor. I know a good one.
