Can someone ID this trans for me please *pic*

Hey guys im looking to put a 5speed in my 87runner 22ret auto and found this setup. The owner doesnt know what it is though just knows its toyota. So if someone that maybe knows the diff in looks between it being a G or a W or maybe even an r151f<----please say YES! .Also im plannin to do a dual tcase eventually and wondered if the tcase pictured would be applicable for my project.

btw i think he said it came from an 87efi truck which would make it either the r151f if turbo, or the w56 if n/a correct?

Check the FAQ on Marlin's website, they have an I.D. guide there I believe.

thanks , i did find some pictures over on marlin- and it appears that both the r151f and the G series all have a twinstick thing going on. And this one here dont so its gotta be a w56.

How bout the transfer case pictured? Thats would be a topshift right.. and a forward shift would run some type of linkage down the side? Im blatantly admitting that im a noobie to the 4wd yota world but nontheless the bug is growing.

That is a W56 trans. Note the top shift case, and the 6 hold down bolts on the extension housing.

Turbo and Carb Transmissions are forward shifting.

btw no, a forward shift case would not run linkage down the side....its all internal. However, the shifter for the case mounts on the extension housing of the TRANS on Turbo and Carbbed cases, instead of on the actual case itself like the EFI cases (hence why EFI is Top shift, and Carb/Turbo are forward)

btw, the turbo and carb cases still have the hole in the top of the case, but it is topped with a block off plate.

awesome link right there.. im without a doubt a visual learner only and they set me up with a pic of both transfer cases side by side. That mixed with DCs description gave me a better idea of the differences in the two.

So, referring to the trans at the top, would this be considered a bangin deal if i can get it for 250-300 with the tcase and all? He said all the gears were good and it had no funny noises when pulled.

thx for the replies guys
