leaking 80-90 from my transfer case at a pretty good rate..
thinking it could be a gasket, the gasket looked like it could go bad when I put the transmission in the truck a few months ago.
my question is how do i take the transfer case off of the transmission? when i installed the transmission it was all one unit but i don't want to go through the trouble of dropping the tranny again just to get at this gasket. another question i have is, are there any manuals online that would detail or diagram how to do this without me having to run into town and buy a haynes manual?
thanks,
mike

If it's a second gen 4Runner or 3rd gen truck, this FSM should work (it's for pickups, but mechanically should be the same as a 'Runner)

if it is the A340H (auto) tranny then you cannot seperate the tranny and the transfercase. They are one unit.
EDIT:I think hte A340H came on 88 to 95 trucks and 4runners. im not sure someone please correct me if im wrong. If you have a manual tranny disregard this post.

Pretty easy to pull the t-case. Unbolt the driveshafts, pull the shifter out, disconnect the speedo cable and 4WD switch, and then support the tranny and remove the crossmember and t-case mount.
As I recall, 6 bolts hold the case to the back of the tranny.

Do they have the gaurd for the CV on the front d-shaft on that year? If so is it there?
I know on the older ones like my 85 if you leave that out the two bolts that hold it on the t-case will bottom out before coming tight and can cause a leak there.
