I popped the top off my Runner on Independence Day and it poured harder that night than it has all year. It's been raining pretty much every day since then, too, so my truck is in a perpetual state of soaked. Are there drain plugs like in Jeeps? Has anyone taken the carpet out that goes from the back of the bed to the tops of the backseats? Maybe I'll take that out and Rhinoline the bed - has that been done?

I guess I'm just looking for options on what people have done in this situation. I want a soft top but don't have the money, so pretty much anything else would help.

Yes, lots of drain plugs under the carpet, front and rear.

Yes, cargo area carpet comes off, but then the backs of your rear seats are exposed. I dont care so I took mine out, but Ill eventually cover the backs up.

Invest in a bikini top as mine stays on all summer and keeps it pretty dry, but I dont have any carpet at all.

 

How often does your rig get rained on?

I'll have to look for those drain plugs and maybe pop a couple out. Wonder if I could fab up something to cover the rear seat backs so I could pull the carpet out....?

A couple times so far pretty hard...one day it was raining sideways. But we have had no rain for at least 3 weeks as of today. I park in the garage at night, so I don't sweat it. I have front Wet Okole's so my front seats are never wet.

I just leave the backs of mine open...or just cut the carpet off at the bottom of the seats.

 

I took the carpet out long ago. There are alot of drain plugs on the floor. I put on a roll on liner, it looks great and so far has held up and is easy to clean.

What I do to keep rain out when I have the top off, is park the truck and put a tarp over it and drive something else. Folding the seat part of the rear seats down keeps them dry as well. also, consider letting the fronts lean forward.

 

+1 ON THE BEDLINER and It's a lot easyer to clean too. I left my rear slider open the other night and it rained for about four hours. The next day I pop the drains and sept the water out. no worrys

 

The carpet dries really fast as well, when i washed mine, (SOAKED them in water) they were dry in 15 min... the only drain holes are where the back seat footrests are... but it really isnt too hard to take the whole carpet out if you'd like....

 

Same thing happened to me at pueblo, i just put a tarp down still got wet so i pulled the plugs, but i removed the carpet from the rear the week before. and my seat carpet and back carpet was separated, so i trimmed the seat stuff, but i plan on replating the whole rear w/ aluminum sheeting, so i dont have to worry about ÅÅÅÅ getting wet. then wet okle my front and rear, but i found out i need a snorkle, because i trashed my engine the other day.

Yeah, invest in a tarp from Wally World. That is what I used to cover my 85 at SE4RJ3 where it rained like crazy one night...not a drop of water in the 85. A few bungee cords and you are good to go.

 

Is it hard to drive down the road with that top on?

Isn't there four plugs that you can pop out in the 4Runner?

 

I ripped the vinyl flooring out of the cargo area in my 4runner shortly after I got it. I used the spray on bedliner and it turned out great. I should probably lay down one more coat while the top is off, before winter comes. Its nice I just go to the car wash if it gets nasty and just spray it out. The bikini covers the important areas and I just let the cargo area get rained on. You will see it when we go on our run today.
