how to loosen the 3.0 cam bolts
#5
I just got done with the same operation and I tired everything under the sun to get those darn things off and nothing worked....until I picked up the Schley SP 96800. worked like a charm. Expensive though. After shipping it's like 50 bucks. I got a hold of the Cornwell tools rep in my area and bought it from him since I was in a hurry. They're a bit spendy, cheaper than Snap-on, but more than the base cost online. Include shipping, you're about at the same price. After you get your bolts off, you've got a heavy one-trick pony tool.....best to stash behind your door to knock out the bad guys when they break into your house. Good luck!

its easy (for me to type)
I know on the '93 3.0 v6 I took the heads off of there is a machined hexagonal section in the center of the cam-shaft (under the valve cover). You can put one guy on a wrench holding the cam this way and have the other guy use a breaker bar on the bolt. Be careful when it breaks loose. Reverse procedure for installation, I recommend using a torque wrench. They are usually damn tight.
