3.4L Coil Pack Testing - Acceptable Ranges?
Hey Guys & Girls,
Just a quick question.
Background Info: I bought a set of used coil packs and ignition wires at a great price to have as spares for my 2002 3.4L 4Runner. I picked them up last night and decided to test them to make sure they were OK. The primary resistances on the coils were all approx 1 ohm, and the secondary resistances on the coils were all around 12.5 kilo-ohms.
So, the question comes from the acceptable ranges listed in my FSM that I downloaded off of the TIS website around a year ago. There are a couple of typos in the FSM when they list the units for the resistance and I just want to confirm that what I think the right ranges are is correct.
There are two locations in the manual that list the ranges. The first says:
Primary: 0.67 Kilo-ohms to 1.05 Kilo-ohms
Secondary: 9.3 Kilo-ohms to 16 Kilo-ohms
And the second says:
Primary: 0.67 ohms to 1.05 ohms
Secondary: 9.3 ohms to 16 ohms
Based on my test results, I think (hope) that the correct ranges are actually:
Primary: 0.67 ohms to 1.05 ohms
Secondary: 9.3 Kilo-ohms to 16 Kilo-ohms
Can somebody confirm this?
Thanks a lot.

Yes, you are correct and those coil packs check out fine.
Most of the time good coil packs will be:
Primary: 1-1.5 Ohms
Secondary: 12-13K Ohms
