I have a 1994 Toyota pick up and as you can kind of tell in the picture I provided, my belt is cracking and it needs to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which belt this powers, and if it is possible for something with moderate skill to replace it. If anyone knows of a write up or a DYI on this I would really appreciate the link. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ryan

 

alternator, and if similar to 22RE,the water pump... Pretty easy. On my re I have to remove the other belt, but its simple.....check out a chiltons manual..

 

Is there a good way of checking the belt tension if you don't have one of the weird belt tension meters?

 

its not simular to the 22re. pictured is the 3vze, meaning the water pump is driven off the timming belt that is under the black plastic cover.

in order to replace the alternator belt you will have to remove the other 2 belts (if you have AC)

as mentioned before any hayes or cliton will outline the procedure.

An old mechanic once told me "Tight is tight, too tight's broke". That same guy used to tell me to tighten bolts "till the snap and back off a quarter turn".

The service manual tells all. If you get one it will be the most usefull tool you will have.

 

All I can says is buy oem belts just changed the belts on me 94 22re and used the auto parts store ones, and not only did I have a problem getting the right belt, the belts are jusnk compaered to oem.
