How hard to change out heater fan switch?

I'm just about ready to bolt my dash back together (yes, I ended up splicing into the dash lights for my inclonmeter install ) but noticed my heater fan does not work on the number one setting. Push switch all the way to the left (or, to the zero setting), and it doesn't work. This is expected. Push it one click to the right (the number one setting), and it still doesn't work. But then it works fine on the rest of the settings and operates quietly.

Any idea how hard it is to change out this heater fan switch? Thanks.

Its the rheostat not the switch. It is located by the fan under the dash and is very easy to replace. 2 screws are all that is needed to take it out and replace it.

Well, I just got back in from the pole barn. I found a pic on what the switch looked like, which helped me figure out how to get the switch out. Pretty easy to get out. I took the thing apart and there is no metal contact for the first position. Since this is a very basic 89 4runner, I wonder if that position would be used for a/c.

Anyway, I cleaned the switch up, lubed it, and I'm gonna go put it back in and get on with putting the dash back together..........I find more ways of wasting time!!

Thanks for the help, S.F.

Well, I pretty much have my dash back together, inclinometer looks pretty good sitting up there. Running my stereo wires now. Finally getting a handle on this thing. Pics to follow if I ever get my digital camera back from the repair shop.

all the way to the left is off, click to the right (#1) and nothing happens becasue there is no contact there, next click over starts the fan moving, and so on.

Weird.
