Fj Cruiser Fuel Economy

Pleasantly Surprised.

So here's some data from the past 10 days or so. 91 octane fuel:

***Dealer's didn't fill tank 100% so who knows about T#1 (unbelievable ba$t@rds):

T#1: 20% Highway 80% around town: 14.5 MPG***

T#2: RUSHHOUR B-S LA TRAFFIC: 19 MPG (how's that work?)

T#3: Mudding, Wheeling and a little highway: 10 MPG!

T#4 Mashing on the highway at 75 MPH for 3 hours straight: 20.75 MPG woohooo

So there it is for a manual 6 speed 10-21 MPG

Sticker says 16 to 19

one more thing

This rig, totally stock, is absolutely insane!!!!!!
If you haven't seen it offroad yet, then you're in for a huge surprise. Even with the stock tires I was flying up little boulder trails, super steep and muddy/slippery trails and skipping around in mudpits, Atrac is a must have.

My buddy brought his lifted, rear locked tacoma with mudtires and the stock FJ still out performed him. The FJ actually surpassed my expectations, all I have to say is wow.

Doesn't anyone observe the break-in schedule in the owner's manual anymore?

Good thread, can we make a standard format like:

Model: (2WD, 4WD)

Transmission:

Odometer Reading Now:

Fuel Used: (Regular or Premium, Brand, Summer/Winter Blend)

Oil Used: (Conventional or Synthetic, Brand and Weight)

Ambient Temps:

Elevation:

Driving Mix: (City, Highway, On/Off Road)

Tire: Brand, Type, Inflation Pressures FF/RR

Notes: Towing, Wheeling in 4Lo aired down, snow, rain, dry, paved, dirt, roof rack, light bar, etc.

I'm still working through the first tank, should have data late this week.

Ambient Temps: 50-55 Degrees
Elevation: 0-500
Driving Mix: (Highway)
Tire: Dueler, 40 PSI
Notes: dry, paved.

Good thread... This was one of my "shortcomings" with the FJ, was hoping for at least slightly better milage, but it's about the same as my 22re runners. Since engines have improved to the point where the 2007 V6 gets the same milage as the 80's 4cyl, it's still a good thing.

I wonder if they'll hybrid the FJ?!

Oil: Factory conventional fill 5W-30

MPG: 15.32

Distance: 180 miles

Ambient Temps: 45-55

Elevation: 90' to 2,000'

Driving Mix: 40% city, 40% mountain twisties, 20% freeway @ 65 mph

Tires: Nitto Terra Grappler AT's, 35 psi (max rated) all around

Notes: OEM roof rack, a/c always on, shifts below 4K rpm, usually 3K rpm, throttle below 50%. Reports from other owners driving the newest alloy block Toyota engines (1ZZ, 2ZZ, etc.) with low-tension piston rings almost always report an increase in economy as the rings seat after 5K miles and a switch to synthetic.

Is this the same enginer as the V6 06 4Runner?

Yes, tuned for slightly more horsepower and torque.

I'm a bit confused on specs...maybe you can shed some light. There are 3 models to choose from, 2wd (blah), then the 4wd models...auto and stick. It says that the auto has a part time 4wd setup, while the manual is full time AWD? What gives? What am I missing? Why not just have a manual trans and manually selectable 4wd and hi/low option?

T#1: About 30% City 70% Highway 18.5mpg
t#2: 70% City 30% Highway 16.6 mpg

and that's it... Got 280miles for the 1st tank and 250 for the 2nd one.

Oh I've got and MT6 with the roof rack if that matters.

Used Amoco 93 Octane, Shifts at 2.5k max, a/c always on, 30% throttle most of the time. I do engine brake quite often but I don't let it go past 3.5k rpm.
