Should I buy this 4Runner
I just wanted to know if you think that this 4Runner is worth $4,500
1995 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4
155,872 miles
4x4,
limited ed,
white,
4x4,
6 cyl,
ac,
ps,
pb,
am/fm,
CD,
alarm,
ABS,
fully loaded,
snrf,
clean,
new plates,
all leather,
I called the guy and he said that the 6th cylinder has a compression problem, and should be a $1000.00 job to get fixed. Is this true?
Could I do it myself?
Should I look for anything problematic with these 4runners?

Please let me know what you think.

I found this little peice of info in another post
The #6, left rear, cylinder likes to burn exhaust valves when the valve adjustment isn't kept up. Causing lower compression.
Does that mean I need to only change the exhaust valve to solve the problem? How much work is that usually? Any help is appreciated, thank-you

$4,500? No... The low compression on #6 is probably a blown HG. It may just be a bent exhuast valve. But either way, the top end will need to be rebuilt. On the 3.0, you solve (prevent) burnt/bent valves by replacing the stock exhuast manifolds and cross-over with headers.

If it needs a new hg then for $4500 its definetly not worth the money because replacement of a hg is like $1500 and why spend 4500 on something you know you have to put another 1500 into if you have it done by a professional, which unless your pretty darn good with cars, is the right way to go but its your choice 155K miles isn't too bad i guess but if you do get it please take those god awful running boards off

Okay so I would have to put headers on to prevent the same problems. how difficult is it to change a head gasket has anyone here done it? what is involved in rebuilding the top end?

Replacing the HGs on a 3.0 is a big job. Quite a few people on this board have done it on their own (including myself). Top end rebuild: If it were me, I'd have oversized valves put in the heads. I'd have the injectors professionally cleaned and balanced. Replace all the gaskets from the HGs up. New timing belt. New water pump (if needed). New idler pulleys (if needed). Clean piston tops. Headers, cross-over.
If you take the heads to a head-shop (for the o/s valves) and you do all of the other work yourself, you are looking at somewhere between $1500-2k. Maybe more.

So you think it's too much to pay for a 4Runner that still needs about $1200+ and that it might still go bad again? So what should I look for as I need a 4 door because we just found out my wife is having twins, and the 87 is gonna be a hassle with only 2 doors.
