Could rich air/fuel mix cause CODE 52?

Well, after doing the air/intake mod (removing the air box), I got a code 52 (knock sensor) almost the same day. I've had the code since then. I can clear it, but it'll come right back. Got the timing perfect. The engine is new. I think it's related to the intake air because it happened just after I did the mod.

I've just researched a bit and have seen that too rich mix can cause knock, which can trip the sensor frequency thing.

When I put in the new filter, I moved the teeth in the AFM vane thing to richen the mixture...right now I have it set 2 teeth past default.

Should I just move it to stock? Any thoughts?

why would you want to richen the mixture. These engines run too rich to begin with. I would move to teeth back to stock & it should clear it up. Most people lean it out if anything. doing the intake mod will not effect your rich/lean mixture to any significance. the reason for the mod is easier breathing. It isn't a ram air system or forced induction

I also have a cone filter with the intake mode and have been running it that was for over 7 years and have never thrown a code.

Great...thanks Celica....I'm gonna move the tooth back to stock.

The reason I moved it was all the posts and that write up thing that said when putting in a cone or whatever that you need to richen it.

I don't get a "too rich" code...I get the knock sensor code.

So, you think that could be it?

even after restting the ecu? - you need to leave to efi fuse out for 30 seconds to clear the codes. Also check the wires to your knock sensor - they have a tndanct to become brittle. If you do a serch on it there is a good write up about the wires

Yeah, I reset the ecu. I just took off the neg battery cable for a while....that should reset it, right? Got sick of taking the fuse out.

I'm thinking that it could be a bad ground...maybe. Because I moved my batter to the right side, I had to reroute the battery cables...

...a while later, my speedo started going nuts, intermittently. I shut off my truck to try to get the speedo working and the dang thing wouldn't even turn! After being pushed off the road, I started just checking and moving stuff under the hood and it started back up fine...but the speedo is still crazy...as well as the knock sensor code....

I dunno....just weird how it all happened around the same time. I took off the knock connector and cleaned it and the plug with electrical cleaner...didn't help. I'm taking off the tape on the battery cable junctions and checking them again. I'm sure I bolted them together real good and all...so I don't know.

I've seen posts other places where people had the knock and speedo thing happening together....kinda weird...so I dunno if they're connected somehow.
