Transmisssion Cooler Leaking into radiator?

Have any of you had this problem? I noticed today that I had transmission fluid leaking like you wouldn't believe, took it in to the shop, and they said the transmission cooler is cracked, but that I am lucky that the anti-freeze is not in the transmission. They also said this is the 2nd 4runner they have seen with this problem, so its really just a fluke. Wasnt planning on spending 600 bucks right now

because the transmission cooler is broken inside the radiator, it could pump in antifreeze instead of transmission fluid

Because the transmission cooler is in the bottom of the radiator. When the engine is running there is pressure in the cooler so transmission fluid leaks out, but when the engine is stopped there's no pressure so coolant can get into the cooler.

dibble, why is it $600, a new rad is about $200 and labour shouldn't be much more than 1 hour to change it.

I guess labor? Plus they have to replace ALL fluids, and do a flush to make sure everything is clean.

it is high, but I trust the people there (I know them) and I can't really go anywhere else, it was really driving poorly on the way there, and it is my dd.

I guess its bad on my part to have just said yes and not research into actually the cost of everything, but as my only car, I desperately need it to run right.
