any tips for rear glass off the track?

a couple of weeks ago i attempted to roll down my rear window but it was iced over. the track continued downward but the glass stayed put. needless to say, when i "un-iced" it, it was no longer in the track. i took off the tailgate inside panel and remounted it onto the track. ever since then, it hasn't worked properly. it seems to keep falling off of the track like every time i drop the window (it's warmer now and so ice is no longer an issue). it worked perfectly before this happened. did i miss something putting it back on the track? was there something that (for lack of a better word) clamped the glass into place so that it went downward not only by gravity, but also by the track PULLING it downward? any tips/suggestions to do it PROPERLY? thanks in advance.

Are the tracks badly rusted, is the rubber welting in place or worn away, are the rollers bad or missing, are the tracks sprung open where they attach to the window or where the rollers travel, is there binding on the side guides. Just a few things to look at.

I had the same problem. Once the window came out of the passenger side track, it never clamped back in there correctly. I used a ˟˟˟˟˟ load of epoxy to glue 'er back in there. If you choose the 'glue' route, I would recommend something that doesn't dry rigid. I'd use silicone or something similar... and a lot of it.

I had the same problem. my tracks were rusted & needed to be replaced.

how difficult and/or expensive is it? cuz mine are quite rusty.

New tracks with the welting are about $15.00 each at the stealership, replaced mine about 3 years ago. Not a really tough job, but not fun either. I don't think there's a writeup here, but a search here will give you some good tips and photos too.

A friend of mine had a similar problem on his window on a 2001 Stang and we used Gorilla glue to get it to stay in that trac. You have to make sure to clamp it down because Gorilla glue expands as it sets. And if you use this meathod place somthing between the clamp and the track that you don't mind leaving behind in case it glues it to the track when it expands, or it will glue the clamp int place and good luck on that.

when I did mine I had to grind off the old ones - careful not to nic the window as it will explode. To get the new ones on I used a old bike trick. Spray the rubber with wd-40 & slide em on. When the wd-40 dries they won't move anymore. This is the easy way to get grips on a bike - worked well for the window as well - never had a problem since & it has been 6 years

Yeah but wd 40 promotes rust as it etches the metal, then you will run into the same problem later on down the road, I would say if you are gonna use that meathod use a mild soap and water solution (like when applying window tint) and it will evaporate the same.

Where can you even find the Tracks at? I have been looking forever for them...Would like to replace the whole piece that attaches to the bottom of the Window.
