1996 4Runner Straight Axle Conversion Web Cam - March 15, 2006

Doing a webcam again. Here are the gound rules.

1. NO TECH what so ever is to be posted in this thead.

A. I don't want it moved to the Fab Shop. I am not offering any fabrication advice here.

B. I will not have time to answer any questions as I will be busy.

C. If you want to know about this swap, it will be exactly like mine, the rear is already converted to leafs and it's all right here:

After the last webcam and all the bashing posted, I greatly reduced my participation on this board. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. I know what I am doing and thanks for the concern, but I don't need any help.

That being said, tune in and watch the junk fall:

I think you can handle it. Buy a Wagoneer Dana 44 and start cleaning it up, that takes a long time. You should be able to get them really cheap down there. They go for $450-500 out here now.

Banjo found one for 50 bucks and did not buy it.

Throw in some clothing optional female entertainment and I think you may have a deal.

Can't wait Steve! I enjoyed watching the one on yours and seeing the progress every day. Just wished I had the need and money for SASing mine. Thanks for the info!

I second that, I love the stance of your SUA. I'm tempted start searching for a cheep D44, since it'll be after graduation(next May) until I'm ready for the big comitment. By that time Andy should be swapped and have experiance enough to work on mine.

I'l be watching.

Another YJ-62 will be born.

I'll dust off the webcam tomorrow & test it out.

you need to trim the fenders pretty good cause the axle needs to be a little more forward from the current IFS location and also you'll have 35's, so the rear side of the fender may also need some attention. LTD flares are OK, but just require a little more TLC to make them look right. for me, the problem is the MultiMode. this runner will always and forever be IFS because of that. if i ever want a SA 3rd gen, then i would say that i'd just get a 96/97 SR5 with automatic trans with a salvage title and bad sheet metal and SAS that. but, since i have to buy a new rig anyway, i might as well just get an early 2nd gen with a 4cyl, auto, and salvage title and then SAS that since it'd be cheaper and WAY easier for the swap and also a lighter rig. an SAS rig for me would be a trailer queen anyway, so why not just do it cheaper and easier and not worry as much about comfort...

Fun starts at 8:00am Mountain Standard Time. Will run from 8-5 with a lunch break.

Day one the goal is just to get all the stuff unbolted and all the frame horns cut off.

On mine me and Cheese stayed up late grinding for hours, on this one that will be day two. Lots and lots of grinding.

I think the older Limiteds with the rolling dial speedos may be easier. Although swaping in a low dollar (stripped) SR5 or Tacoma case will probably have to be done. One without the multimode. Plain old J-shift pattern. Or go back and try to get that Front Range Axle with FZJ-80 outters and ABS sensors made.
