hey i have a 87 sr5 4x4. It has the factory 15x7 alloys. They are in rough shape, so i bought some nicer ones from the classifieds. My question is my old rims say 15x7JJ-15 DOT on the rim. The new ones say 15x7JJ-8. And they also say offset 8 on them. They were from a 91 toy 4x4 according to they guy i bought them from. They look the same to me. Is there going to be a problem? Or will they work? Also,

i have some used mud terrains on my old rims, the left front tire is severely out of round. And it's making my p/u vibrate like hell. I'm going to replace the tires and wheels, but what causes this? Should I be worried about tire rod ends or other front steering equipment? Thanks very much.

Your new rims will be fine. As far as the mudder, it sounds like your steel belting in the tire broke. Jack it up and spin it. Is there a section of the tread with a hump in it? The faster you go the more it vibrates? Replace that sucker ASAP!

 

well, the tread is uneven if u look at it. high in some spots, low in others. it vibrates very badly at low speed like 5mph, and gets a little better when u spped up, but is still very loud. I just don't want to put new tires on again and have it happen again. What could cause that condition?

So there is not a noticeable hump in the tire? Not the tread, the tire? It is rare, but your steel belting in the tire can break, causing the tire pressure to push out the tread in that area. Is this vibration gradually getting worse, or did it just start one day?
I would jack it up, grab the tire with both hands, and move it back and forth. How much play is there? If there is not much or any play, rotate your tires, putting the bad one on the rear. See if it still shakes up front.
And make sure you have the correct tire pressure.
It might need to be rebalanced.
You probably need an alignment too.

 

If you have irregularly worn tread, that would point to worn shocks or other worn or bent suspension components. Have the front end looked at, before popping for more tires. You may be right back in the same shape in a couple months.

i took it to a tire shop at lunch. they think it's just worn from side to side turning, and he said mud terrains ned to be rotated more than regular tires. I have had them for like 5-6 months and have not rotated them, so i'll try putting it on the rear and see how that goes. thanks alot guys.
