Swappability of stock 1999 and up 3in1 deck into 1997 4Runner??

I'd like to swap a newer 3in1 deck into my stock double DIN Runner. Has anyone done this? How'd it work out? Do the stock '97's have an amp? I currently have the AM/FM/Tape/CD unit with the cd player being seperate from the radio. TIA

Yes there is if you have the 6-speaker pacakge.
You can easily adapt the 99+ HU in there as long as you get the harness from the 99+ to go with it' that way you can just match wire to wire. The 99+ plugs are different so its not a straight swap.

Also try the audio forum for better results!

Are you talking about this one?

I took mine out of my 00 4runner and put it in my parents 98. It was a straight swap. They had this one, minus the cd player:

They don't have the 6-speaker package.

just use the 99-02 amp with it, and you'll be fine. The main wire harness is the same, so just plug in the amp, plug in the deck, and you're all set. I put my 99 Limited Radio into my AllTrac for a little while before I did the system, and it worked/sounded great! And it looks really clean.

Yup, that's the one I'd like to swap/buy. I do have the six speaker package, i'm assuming the wiring harness would be the same for 1997 as for 1998...sounds like a straight swap...thanks for the posts, now I just need to find one AND learn to move my post into the Audio Section

For all that want this, check out www.oemvalue.com

That is where I got the Toyota OEM NAV unit from, and they had all the other Toyota radios for sale. The site is not working for me, but a friend said it works on his computer, so just give it a shot.

He has good prices too.

This is what my friend is sending me.

2. 1987 - 2004 Toyota Add On CD Player w/ Free Cassette AM/FM Shortwave Radio

Well, nearly a year later I thought I'd update my post.

As far as deck swappability...I assume it's all the same but I went a different route. I used a Single disc Scion HU from a 2005 that I bought from a member here on the board.

It was trimmed for fitment into a Tacoma but for the 4Runner application it needed some additional trimming with a Dremel.

The HU sounds great and I've experienced zero problems!

One thing to mention, it illuminates the Orange color of the newer 'Runners, not the green like my stock unit.

I know this is an old thread, but I hope to get some answers from it anyway. From what I've found, no one has had to get an adapter harness when plugging in the Scion head unit to their 4Runners. I've got a '99 Runner. Picked up a Scion unit (T1807) and it's no where close.... Why, and do they make an adaptor???

So much for an easy 20 minute job....

Ok... Even I have the right of being a bonehead... Looked behind the headunit and I saw another little silver box. Turns out it's the amp (I'm guessing). Took that out and the wire harness that I was needing was plugged into that.
