1988 4x4 X-cab V6, should I buy it?

I live around Dallas TX and I've found a 1988 X-cab 4X4 with a v6 and 5 spd. I talked to the guy today and I am going to check it out on Friday. It has 260,00 miles but he said he's had it since 92'. He said he got the headgaskets done in the 90's and it still runs perf, no leaks and whatnot. He's asking 3500. It has cold a/c too! Which in tx is a big plus. I guess my question is the 3.0 able to go 300,000 plus miles or should I stay away because of the high mileage, I guess after owning 2 2nd gen runners I don't have much faith in the 3.0 anymore. He claims it runs great though. I'll let you guys know more after I drive. I was thinking if all is well I'd offer 2800 and see where that goes. Paul

I have 230 on mine & it is still like new. There seems to be a variance in the engines. If you got a good one then htey are bomb proof.

Yea that's what I was hoping, 260k on an 88 v6 it might have a shot......I'm going to drive it friday. I mean if it's made it this long it's gotta be good..... I've looked alot of 2nd gen runners around here and they're iffy at best, one guy was asking 6995 for a 94 and I checked the coolant resevoir and it was thick as molasses with oil, so was the radiator, needless to say it wouldnt even crank over, he just looked at me and was like "I drove it yesterday"....Ridiculous

You have to think about how it was kept up. I know both of my pickups have been strong up to 150K. I haven't owned one past that, but I'm going for the long haul with the 91 pickup I have now. I think that it's all about the owner of the truck/suvs. I hear people say that the engine crapped around 125K and then others like Celica with 230K going strong. Keep up regular maintence and anything can last.

I talked to him tonight, I'll be looking at it tomorrow, he said he's done like 3 or 4 timing belts, I'm going to leaf through his receipts tomorrow.
