How to remove 4Runner side mirrors?

88 4Runner SR-5...mirrors on both sides work (power), but both are loose and rattle like crazy with every bump in the road. Not only annoying noise, but makes it hard to really see and judge the motion of adjacent and following vehicles...not safe. There is one phillips head screw on the bottom, but doesn't seem to have anything to do with removing the mirror body. So all I can figure is you have to take the door panel apart? What is the easiest way to get the mirror body off and either try to tighten up the existing pieces, or possible replace it? I have seen replacement mirrors on Ebay, not power, but at this point I would totally sacrifice the power just to have solid, stable mirrors on each side. Can any of the Yota gurus out there help?

check to see if there's an inner cover to remove, which exposes three bolts to hold on the mirror. this may not be typical of your model year, so don't waste much time if that's not your setup. the cover i'm speaking of is on the inside of the door, if it's there.

im presuming they are attached to the outside of the door and are probably chrome. you should see a fine line where the two halves join. using a fine blade screwdriver, gently pry the apart. once these covers are off, you should see the mounting screws holding the mirror to the door skin. remove the screws, use a little loc tite on the threads then tighten them up.

i believe the mirrors are attached to the corner area of the windows on the 2nd gen and up runners. those can be worked on from the 'inside' of the doors.
