question about my truck. *code 71*

ok my cel was on for about 3 months or so, well i went in to get an oil leak checked out and it turned out to be the valve cover gasket, so now i have no more leak...awesome.
i also got new break pads...but on to my question.

after leaving the shop, about 1 hour later or so my cel just went off when driving, i was like what the? because it has NEVER went off scence it came on.
and it has not been on scence?

could the valve cover gasket have caused the fixed cel???

it was a 71, egr related when i checked it, but now its off?

anyone have any ideas?? thanks

Is your engine a 3VZE V-6? If so and the valve cover leak was on the passenger side, they had to remove the EGR and associated to get at the valve cover. Maybe there was a loose connection (vacuum , etc.) to the EGR and it was not functioning. Upon its replacement, they might have cleaned or made sure the EGR was working properly.

Additionally,, if they removed the battery cables when they worked on the engine, that effectively removed the CEL code.
