converting 2wd to 4wd 04 taco

what all is needed to convert a 04 taco prerunner to 4wd. my friend plans on doin a SAS and is doin D44's front/rear. he wants to do coilovers up front, and keep the leafs in the rear. right now, he has 3" body and 2" leveling kit. he plans to run 37's. also, how much could he get outa his factory rearend with the factory locker in it?

Is it a stick or an auto? Either way, I don't think it matters. But the first thing he will need is a new tranny/T-case. It is my understanding that the 4WD and 2WD trannys are not the same. So I do not think a transfer case will just bolt up to the stock tranny.

Since he is SAS'ing it then obviously he would need all the steering, axle, and all the crap that goes with that.

And what exactly do you mean in the last sentence?

That rear end will handle 37's no problem. And the factory locker is a very strong unit.

he wanted to sell his factory rearend, but just wanted to know how much he'd be able to get out of it. but if it could handle 37's, then i guess he'd prolly just keep it. i'll ask him bout it.

and its an auto. so from what i can think of, a new tranny/tcase, new steering, front driveshaft, and anything else? also, what coilovers are good, and what would be a good length to where he'd be able to clear 37's once he took his body lift and leveling kit off?

well i found a set of D44's for $300, but if his rear axle would be ok to run 37's, then i'll tell him to just stick with that, and buy the front axle. now would him converting to 4x4 and just keepin IFS up front be alot cheaper? he mainly wants it for the mud, so im guessin he should just convert to 4x4 and dont do a SAS. where could he get a tranny and tcase to go up to his 3.4L, and where could he find the parts for everything to convert to 4x4. if keepin it IFS up front and just converting it would be sheaper than doin a SAS, i can guarantee he would rather do that than spend a ˟˟˟˟˟ load on parts for the SAS.
