What kind of shocks are these?
According to my pit marks in my tires and my G/F complaints i am in need of new shocks. i was just wondering if some Toyota genius could tell me what kind of shocks they think these are... could they be the original? Thanks.

I know it looks like rust, but i played in alot of red dirt/mud the other day. I actully have very little rust on my rig. i think 2 spots now, one on the rear bumper and some rust on that guard that is under the engine. But i am not looking forward to takeing them out as i have no impact wrench.

Me too, I have an 89 with original shocks, if you look close on the casing, they will have toyota part numbers, mine are actually in great shape, I doubt the original owner replaced em with OEMs so I am guessing they are OE. Go
od stuff I guess.

Mine had OE shocks when I bought it with only 89K on them. I was absolutely blown away at the difference when I put my Bils on there. Shocks wear out so slow you never really realize they are totally toast until you replace them.

OE - mine were KYB Gas-a-just I think. I put ProComp ES3000's on, rides OK. Probably should have done Bilsteins.
You can't get an impact on the bolts you need one. Sawzall to the rescue - especially on the back upper studs.

Yep, shocks will make so much difference you won't believe it. Those were probably shot 150K ago.
Are you at stock height? Look at your front bumpstops - you might BE bottoming out - they bottomed out easily when new. A little Tbar Up might help.
Bils are worth it if you have the budget, but on a stock truck anything will be an improvement. If you are mostly pavement, simple shocks from Napa or whatever give a smooth ride. The bils are a little stiff but handling will be much improved.

Those are the original shocks. An impact will take them off pretty easily. On the back, the top stud is a major PIA. Soak them good and if that doesn't work, fall back to the sawsall. I ran Rancho's on my 94 and liked the ride and the price was right.

my old ranchos on my 4runner were shot. I had to cut them off with a sawzaw, it was a horrible site. cuttin off some nice expensive shocks. i replaced them with some Monroes in the front and some Monroe reflex in the rear. Made sooo much difference, not near as much body roll, and i actually feel confident when takin a corner at a higher rate of speed. Sits right there on the road, some people may not like them but for like 200 bucks for 4 shocks wiith lifetime warranties, i like um.
