yet another Baja mini-story

yet another Baja mini-story
So I just got back from a nice drive around San Felipe area as well. The old man and I took off Vegas and got to Pueblito/El Costillo area (about 70 miles south of San Felipe) in the middle of nowhere.
Did a little fishing and LOT of off roading; I just want to once again praise the awesome 3rd gen for all its attributes. The ride down was incredibly smooth at about 75mph. I pulled a nice 19mpg with 2 people and a loaded up rear. The Geolanders hug the road nicely and are still quiet as any other tire (after 10k miles).
Arrived and had the nicest and most latest test of my Trek Masters. Driving on Mexican roads often means a series of un avoidable pot holes, cracks and missing chunks of pavement... well not only did I have that to deal with, but the farther down south we went the road (if you could call it that) turned into straight 4-wheel, rock-climbing, 1mph adventure...
The Tokicos performed as good as I ever could have hoped in all conditions while still maintaining a very reasonable comfort level (beach/sand, rocks, dirt roads, graded-mexican-potholed roads....etc). Im very pleased with these Tokicos (my Runner is stock aside from the 265/70 Geolanders) as of these 10k + miles on them. THey ride better than stock in every way accept pleasing your mother for smoothness, I love them.
My geolanders did sooo great in the sand at about 30psi. Definitely had to use the 4wd a lot threwout the trip and there wasn't one road condition unconquered. Unloaded all the crap and slep in the back with a nice bedding of cotton blankets, decent room for 2 adult males as many of you know (cept for the leg length). Had a very nice time and the Runner once again kept a smile on my face with all that it did for me!
Oh and lastly every time I drive my stepmothers 06' Sport Edition I cant help but think of a bunch of the things the 3rd gen offers over the 4th gen's. I mean its a wonderful truck (especially the 4.7, steering feel and brakes) but there are definitely some things I like much more about my 97 SR5 5sp.
Heres couple pics from the trip, enjoy and go and visit Baja! Its a very unique place and there isn't anything better for a nice camping, beach, fishing get away!

Awesome--I'm planning on doing a Mexico trip early next year...trying to get my "new-to-me" 4Runner ready. Did you ever find yourself wishing you either had firmer rear coils or airbags in the rear, especially traveling offroad loaded with gear?

not once...
I say this because I don't do this type of thing to often you know. If I was a tower, or loaded up the rear a lot (or used high tongue loads) then I would definitely consider some air bags. I probably carried a good 450lbs and I felt fine with the stock springs and trek masters.
