Question Which 3.0 do I have? (not stock)

I bought a truck in '95. The head gasket blew in '96. Toyota installed a brand new engine for me at 169,000 for free because of the recall. Ran it to 252,000. Plenty of life left, but was hit three times last year when I was not even in it. I recently bought another truck of the same year with a blown motor, and swapped engines. Now my old truck is gone (although I could go look at it if necessary). All I could find written on the engine is the obvious "V6 3.0 EFI". How can I tell which 3.0 I have?

Well I can't say what the code is for the old 3.0, but if it is in the truck there is only one available. Toyta had a 3.0 in the Camry for a while but it would be FWD configuration. So I would have to say that both trucks would have the same 3.0, minus any minor changes they made from year to year, still the same block though.

Take a picture and post it up. Should be enough for the experts are here to confirm which engine you have.

I thought the only 3.0 Toyota made for the pickup / 4Runner is the 3VZ-E??

It might have been a supra engine. Check around this forum, there was a thread that was attempting to get pictures of every toyota engine.

The 3.0 in the Camry is a 3vz-fe, NOT the same as the trucks/4runners. Different heads, exhaust, computer, and tuning. I believe you mean the differences between the two 3vze 3.0 v6 engines. One was early (1988 to 5/1992) and one was later (6/1992 to 1995). There are minor differences, like a water outlet at the top of the engine (pipe coming off of the outlet cap going to ? on earlier V6's) and a oil to water cooler on the driver's side of the block. The main difference is one had a hydraulic type timing belt tensioner and the other just had a spring type tensioner. Because of this, the front timing belt cover/false water pump will be different inside. I don't know which group of engines had what because I have a '92 and can't check the build date right now. Hopefully someone else here can answer that. Hope this helps!

I'll bet you a million dollars that a Toyota dealer did not do a Supra swap under the head gasket recall. And that wouldn't be a 3VZFE anyway.

Plus, wouldn't the Supra be an inline 6, that would be pretty tough not to notice.

finally, logic
of corse its a 3vze, no dealer would put in anything alse. also the "V6 3.0 EFI" gives it away as that is exactly what is on the 3vze intake manifold. does it look like this?

Thanks. Got it figured out.
By the way, I have read several different HP and torque ratings for this motor. Anybody know for sure what it has?

I'd say the 3.0 has about 16 RWHP and somewhere around 20 lb. ft. of torque.

Yes, it is the 3vze.
PS. I had heard it is 16hp, 20 torque. I was overjoyed when I recently learned it might be 17.575hp and 23 torque. Does anyone have anything useful to say? Otherwise those are the stats I will have to tell my friends when I go wheelin'. I did learn them off of a cool site!
C'mon people! You all have Toys! I know this was not their best motor ever, but it still beats the crap out of a lot of other companies. Defend a brother in arms here! I go wheelin regularly with 3 Scouts (tanks), a '68 Bronco (maxed out), a '64 Landcruiser (yeah!), a Montero (haha), a flat fender Jeep, and a 3/4 ton Ford (phh!). I am on your side even if I do not have your motor!

3vze has 150 HP in stock form, and is a better motor for making torque than high speed horsepower. That's why it's called the "3.slow".

In my current swap i can tell you there are a few other minor diffrences between various 3vz-e's

Including the water distrubition block at the back of the lower plentum can have anywere between 4 and 7 fittings on it.

the intake manafold (pictured above) is slightly diffrent on the side were all the crap ties into it. the changed a couple of the fittings.

The TB's are slightly diffrent depending on model. (auto vs 5speed)

There is an addtional (what seems to be) coolant drain on the block. The "normal" one is on the pass side beside the motormount and virutally "under" were the ac compressor would be. BUt i have a block in my garage that has a second simular plug on the oppisit side in the rear.
