Broke my 1st cv shaft. Now i need help.

Well we out whellin today and as I was comming over a hill I bottemed out and heard my cv shaft just snap in 1/2. So i looked at it and it had snaped and tore the boot. So i cut the inner boot and pulled the hole shaft out.

I did a serch and know how to replace the shaft now but i still have a cupple ???'s

1. dose the new shaft come with grease to repark the cut part the shat slides into?

2. and if not what else will i need besides just the new shaft and boots?

3. I got water in the cup part with the old grease today, should i just clean it out befor regreaseing it?

Thanks for the help. And it sucks being 2wd!

Buy a whole "halfshaft" - don't screw with boots and grease. Just pull the whole thing, and reinstall a new one. Autozone $79 after core rebate

if you dont feel like pulling the whole assembly out to press the studs out, it can be done with a punch and hammer while still on the truck. Thats how i did mine when i put new boots on my drivers side.

That's what I did as well. Maybe the studs can be pressed out using a decent-sized c-clamp with the 17mm socket? I know my passenger side cv boots need to be changed soon, so I should try that.

Looks like I'm going to be doing another CV this week...What size bolts do you replace the studs with - Metric grade 10.9 right?

After Farmington this weekend, will probably be more tempted to SAS ... LOL

Need to learn a lot more about wheeling before I can take advantage of SAS! Would hate to be "that guy" who just built an awesome truck and has no idea how to use it.

Go to O'Reilly's Auto Parts they have CV axles for cheep. On top of that they have a low price guarantee: make something up, $49.99 @ Autozone that will surely get you a good deal.
