i need a new muffler for my 88 22re 4runner as my old one is compleatly gone. What would you suggest in the 100.00 price range? i am looking for something that will last a long time first and then something that is not loud but if you listen for it you can hear a nice growl. Thanks

i guess i am looking for something that while in the cab with the windows up i can only hear if the radio is off. But when accelerating i don't want it to be to loud, just loud enough so that i can hear it in the cab.

Go with a stock replacement. All those aftermarket mufflers just make the 4 banger sound like a out of control popcorn maker. I can get you into a stock system for under your $100 limit and it runs from the cat back, bolts in too
You know where to find me

Does anybody have a aftermarket muffler on a 22re or 22r? does it really sound like a "out of control popcorn maker" Also do i need to weld on aftermarket mufflers? or do some bolt on?

I tell ya, whichever performance brand you get (Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster etc) you'll hear it on acceleration and in the cab, especially during highway travel...it will DRONE! Go with the OE muffler from Toyota. The exhaust system on Toyotas is remarkably well tuned and engineered. In fact, I still have my factory exhaust, sitting in the garage taking up space

That's TRUE & FALSE. Toyota is no longer doing the lifetime muffler warranty program. If you had purchsed your muffler when the program was active, then you have nothing to fear. If you purchase a Toyota muffler after the program ended, then well... no lifetime warranty is given.
Just a FYI

I just installed a thrush turbo muffler on my 89 runner w/ a 22re not long ago...Its very quiet, and the only sound difference is really from the rear if you put your ear up to it...Very minimal sound increase and only cost 19.99 from summit racing.....To sum it all up, it doesent sound like a popcorn maker, but I am sure it would if it was any louder...

I got a glasspack on mine. It was really cheap and sounds good. But I do have the 3.0, which sounds good anyway. Its a little loud though. Actually, its very, very loud. On the highway it isn't bad, but taking off, cruising, etc., its loud. Can't say I'd recommend it for you...
