A while back, I accidentally did a 230 mile round trip in my 3 slow M/T with the TPS disconnected.

The trip was 90% highway where I ran 65 to 75 mph ( 72 most of the time) and the 10% was b roads and some climbing upto a ski resort in the Blue Ridge mountains.

I got 15 mpg round trip.

Did the same trip Saturday with the TPS reconnected and at least 3 tanks of a prototype injector cleaner in the system.

I got nearly 30 miles more out of the tank of gas which means I got nearly 2 mpg better. 2mpg is not bad but for me but an extra 25 to 30 miles on the tank means I can get there and back ( I work part time at the resort) without stopping for gas which is nice.

So, a properly functioning TPS clearly impacts mileage. Poor gas miles ? Check your TPS.

Yeah, that happened to me...mine was shot and I spent about 2 weeks replacing stuff and cleaning stuff to help my mileage, finally surrendered and took it to the dealer and they said, yeah you just need a new TPS...

Hey Fink,
what were your symptoms before you started trying to fix the problem? MPG before and after replacing the TPS? I'm having a big problem with gas mileage. Granted, I have 33's but I also have 4.88's and the engine runs ok, but I can watch the gas gauge drop dramatically on very very short trips (even if I keep the RPMs really low and drive like a grandma). It just seems like its dumping fuel into the engine for no reason, and there is sometimes that slight hesistation when getting going like if gets flooded and then it will go. Think this sounds like my TPS going?

Agreed.

Rogers site covers a lot of stuff. My TPS was slightly different and in the end, the easiest way for me to check was to look at the pin voltages at the ECU.

That was when I dsicoved that I was not gettting a WOT voltage.
