ok so i've already bought the pads and shoes, but this will be the first time i've replaced them myself, or serviced the brakes at all for that matter. so is there anything in particular or any tips yall have for doing this? i know the pads should be easy but i've heard the shoes are significantly more complicated. just thought i'd check with yall before i start in on this...thanks in advance

 

Pads are very easy, just undo a clip and pull 2 pins out. If you find the pins are stuck get a thin nail and bang them out from the other side. Put a tiny bit of grease on the pins before putting them back, it'll be easier next time. You'll need to push the caliper pistons back in to fit the new pads, remove some fluid from the master first otherwise it might overflow.

Rear shoes are a bit more complicated but not too hard. Do one side at a time, keep the other side intact so you can look how things go back together. Make sure you clean and lube the self adjusters before putting them back, use a SMALL amount of high temp grease. Make sure they're screwed all the way in so the drums will fit on, then adjust them. I usually tighten mine up until the brakes are just dragging slightly and then back off a couple of clicks. It's easier if you do it before you put the wheels back on.
