22re head shim

ok i have tore my 88 4runner down and found out i need to shave the head how much of a problem are the shim spacerfor the head going to give me down the road the blocks good and straight and it has low miles for what i have seen in here only 110000

I did not have ANY luck with the shim. I used a "thicker" head gasket. It blew also (these lasted maybe 5K miles each). Then used factory Toyota gasket. Works good.

Ok I Have Talked To Toyota In My Area They Know Nothing About Thicker Head Gaskets They Say Go To Napa And Buy A Head Shim To Use When The Heads Been Shaved Im Not Sure Of Witch Direction To Go

don't bother with the shim. if the head has been shaved a bit for resurfacing you will probably be fine.

this reminds me of a thread a few months back. the guy really wanted a shim. i think they are worthless unless there is a lot of materal removed

unless that motor got really hot, i doubt that the machine shop would have to take no more than .010" to clean it up, that much will not make a difference

thanks for all the help i have it up and running working on vacuum line now it up and running the first head had .050 cut off of it so i junked it second head only had the .015 cut off that i had cut so i used a shim and it working great so far ill just have to keep my fingers crossed thanks again for all the help
