85 xtra cab upgrading j arm Q?

like title says i am building up my 85 extra cab to 35 boggers and locked front and rear this winter .

and i know the J-arm is a pretty wink link . what are the options to upgrade this ? i like allpro's high steer set up . but have never seen one in person .

i live in ALASKA so the trails here go a long ways away from help ..i dont want to break out there . thanks in advance .

No real good way to beef up the arm, if there were you would see them available. Either carry a spare, keep the torque rod connected and run a dropped draglink (S-shaped) to protect the steering arm and as long as you don't have tons of front axle travel, it may be fine.

Or swap to crossover steering, AllPro, Marlin, Sky, FrontRange and many others all have offerings for that.

thanks i will look further into those . i have always liked what all pro and marlin puts out ..just cost of shipping kills us up here .just one of those things i have to do .

i am running a moderate 3.5 lift and 35's . the springs up front are pretty stiff .. i hope it holds together . we dont have much rocks with out lots of mud . i am not sure if thats good or bad for my little truck .

Some folks go with flipping the ball on the end of the j-arm to the top to reduce stress on the arm. You need to grind the weld off and press the ball out and then have it inserted from the top side. An adjustable draglink is also required since you need to turn one end of the drag link over. Lifting the bal up reduces the angle and likelyhood of binding between the draglink and j-arm with the lift.
