Got New Tires Today!
Just picked up some 275/70/17 Goodyear Silent Armor A/T today from discount tire. Cost just below $1000 with tax, mounting, balancing, certificates and siping. My mtr's were worn out and impossible to balance anymore and I was ready for a smooth riding A/T tire. My first impression of these tires are great. Balanced well, great rain traction and felt nice and solid around corners. Goin up to crystal mountain tommorow where it has been snowing alot so I will get to try them out there too. I know these are new, unproven tires and I will let you all know how they hold up! So far though so good!!

They were one of my only choices for a 17 inch rim in a 275. The 285's BF A/t were $209 a piece - a little bit more. Didn't really consider that when I bought the rims 3 years ago but i'm kinda stuck now...

$174.00 a piece. so four is $696.00 plus shipping ranges from $90.21 to $129.60. already thats at a minumum of $786.21. i think most places (at least that ive called) charge like $14 a tire to install, so that makes it $842.21.
so i guess he didnt do too bad. and if he wanted them right then, if the extra $50 or$100 or so he spent was worth it to have the tires right then, then id say he did good.

I just looked at Discount locally and even through them those same tires would have been about $1000. I think most of us are used to our 16 inch wheels not 17".
Yokohama Geolandars would have been a cheaper alternative for a very decent AT tire but the 17" is still pricey compared to the 16 inchers.

That's actually where I ended up buying the tires from. I looked eveywhere on-line and did my homework as I don't take spending $1000 lightly. I paid a little more getting them locally but liked having some recourse if something went wrong. I also, looked at the yokohama geolander but decided that the difference in cost was worth having a little better tire. Plus, the silent armors have a 50,000 mile warranty which with my driving should last about 3 years or so and justifies the extra cost a little more in my mind... So far I am happy with them though, went up to the mountains in some snowy and icy roads this weekend and they rocked. People were putting the chains on and I didn't even need to put it in 4WD.

These tires are great street tires...forget off roading, they don't have enough grip, but on the road they grip like no other. I have a set on the rear, 265/70/16 and they have been great on dry and wet pavement.
