Question about installing stock rear tire carrier on 2nd. Gen.
ok so i've got the spare underneath on mine but i'm about to buy a rear carrier...so i've got a few questions. is there anything solid enough to bolt on the carrier above and below the taillights like it is on the runners that came with it standard? i've tried to check it out but i just can't really tell if its solid enough to support it (don't know if the ones that came with it standard had extra reinforcment in there or not). and also, the bracket that the arm clips into on the middle of the tailgate...will i be able to bolt that on eventhough thats where my reverse lights are? if any of yall have done this install i'd love some insight before i buy this. thanks in advance.

Did it to mine, and yes you'll need some backing support if yours did not come with the swingarm tire carrier it does not have the reinforment boxes with nut cages. I made a pair of steel plates 3/8'' shaped to conform to the insides of the rear panels where the swingarm mounts, marked the hole locations on the outside, drilled the holes out, put the plates inside and marked the hole locations, tapped out the bolt holes and put it together. You'll need help. If you have the plate that bolts to the tail gate it should bolt right in (I was lucky enough to get the gate, swingarm, brackets and licence plate bracket). Your back up lights will be obscured and you will need to move your licence plate. Hope some of this helps, don't be discouraged you can do it.

Yes, there was additional internal bracing on the factory carriers:
