3rd Gen: Stock Hitch + Shackle Hangers?

Im making weld on shackle hangers out of 3/4" stock for my DesignFab class. I was wondering....would the stock hitch be strong enough to weld the hangers on, and be able to use for recovery? I was thinking of beveling the base of the hanger, so I could have them welded on about 2" fromt he end of the hitch.

I wouldn't just fillet weld them on. I'd cut the hitch and put the bar stock (1") through the hitch and weld it up that way with a bit sticking out the back side so you can get plenty of weld on it front side and rear.

Grasshopper: In life, doing the job the right way is often more trouble than doing it the fastest/easiest way. Set the bar high for yourself and enjoy a little trouble. You will be much more proud of your results.
