Gasoline powered air compressors?
I'm looking to buy a new air compressor and had my mind set on a this 230V 60gal 7hp Kobalt
Well a mechanic friend of mine has been trying to talk me into getting a gas powered air compressor mainly because its portable and he says it will last longer. I plan on using a D.A. sander and other tools that require high CFM output which i dont think a gas unit is good for. What do you guys think about gas powered compressors for automotive work? Any experience?

they have small tanks and will not work too well with things that require a high amount of cfm....
one of the guys i work with uses one for his roofing nailgun, but shooting nails doesnt put a drain on the compressor and tank like high cfm required tools do....
i personally would get the one you were looking at
and your link doesnt work

I have a gas powered compressor on my service truck. 12 hp Kohler with 2 stage compressor. This puts out enough air to run my 1" air impact on semi tires (150 PSI). I'll bet it was spendy.......It was on the truck when I got it.

are you talking about the small portable ones? or the large ones? service trucks for tire companies have huge external air compressors in the back, and those can handle use for air tools, but the little ones with the wheel in the middle with handles and the 3 gallon tank wont hold up to automotive use....

The link must be a zip code thing...the 60gal is at www.lowes.com
search item # 134819 or type in 'air compressor'. Then type in zip code 80127. The model number is K7060HFV and cost $499
The gas compressors i'm talking about have the smaller tanks. I want to keep my price range under a grand and now im realizing most of them cost well over that.
Heres one that may be within my budget http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...90944&R=290944

yeah rocket the smaller ones you showed above work great, however, we use one for roofing nailers and it handles 3 of them fine, but they dont drain air like air tools.... the big huge one is what would be best for you.....

Don't forget to check out Sears. The Craftsman line of tools and air compressors are really good.
But yea, don't get a gas powerec one. Those would only be best if you were going to be needing it where there isn't any electricity.
