i went to start the truck today after it had been sitting in the cool night for a good while..

i let the engine crank about 4 times...than i let the key off and i tried it again

the starter just went like vrrrrooommmm like it was spinning but not spinning the drivetrain.

it scared me but i tried it again and she fired right up...no problems after starting..purrs like it always does


what the hell is this problem?

 

Sounds like the drive gear (Bendix) did not engage the flywheel. The starter may not have some to a complete stop before you turned the key the second time.

 

Depeneding on how dirty it it, it could be gummed up and not throwing the Bendex out all the time, also.
