Thats right... to make a LONG story short, I ended up having to leave my sunroof open and yeah... it was raining this morning... but I finally found my keys, but I'm left with a wet leather interior. I wiped everything down, but is there any stuff to put on it or should I just let it dry?

My only suggestion is to leave the windows open. If you don't it will get all musty. You don't want your interior to smell like that. I took the wife's Pathfinder on a fishing trip and got the carpet floormats all wet. The next morning, after having the windows closed all night, it stunk to high heaven. It took the rest of the week to air the thing out.

 

You'll want to rub it down with a leather lotion. YOu can get it from any leather goods store.
First, clean it with a leather specific cleaner. I use Blue Coral Vinyl and Leather Cleaner. Then, dump some leather lotion onto your hands and rub them puppies down. Let them sit for a few hours or even over night if it's not too cold. Then wipe off any excess with a rag.

A word of caution: don't use anything with a polymer i.e. Teflon, etc. Use only something you would put on your skin. Mink oil, kneetsfoot oil and the like are best. They'll also soften the leather and make your seats more plush.

Let it dry before you put anything on. Leather is a skin so it is porus. The water is probably soaked into the foam. Most manufacturers have a thin plastic over parts of the foam to help the cover slide on easier. It still may have soaked into the foam. Try feeling under your front seats. Reach up. If it's wet/damp, the foam is soaked and will take a long time to dry out. Mold will start. Try using those closet dehumidifiers. They have electric or those absorbant stone-like stuff that pulls moisture. The carpet pad is probably wet too. Run fans and try leave doors & windows open. Other option is go to an upholstery shop, have 'em pull the seat, remove the covers and sun dry the foam...easier to keep the sun roof, I mean rain door closed. good luck.

 

If youv had a lot of rain in the car then you should pull up the carpet anywhere it si damp! It will stink you right out of the car! Try placing 2 leiter bottles under the carpet for better ventalation!

Air circulation is important also, at the very least. You'll need to get everytning dry before applying anything that could seal in moisture.

 

If you can park it in a warm garage with all the windows down it will help dry it quicker but more than likely you will still get mildew. You can spray something like Febreez (?spelling) and I've found it does a great job of getting rid of mildew stink and cigarette stink.

 

Hey guys, I had the same problem. I had my back seats in my 99Limited folded down because I was carrying alot of cargo. A 3 gallon jug of water leaked and sat in there about a day before I realized it. I ended up having to rip the carpet up and stick a fan in there... but I got it all dried out. However, the leather got pretty soaked and it was laying on top of a seatbelt... so know I have a pretty good indentation in the leather where the seatbelt buckle was laying. I haven't found a way to get it out since... any ideas? Thanks for the help. Peace.

austin- maybe you should go for the old-person-couch look in your runner. put some thick plastic over your seats!!

I've used a product called 'damp rid' is musty closets, It pulls moisture and ends up in a cup. Look for it at drug stores. up one under each seat and check it every few days. This should help to pull the water out of the seat foam.

For some reason I want to say that running the air conditioner will pull moisture out of the cab. Not saying it will pull buckets out but every bit helps. =)

If i'm wrong someone correct me. I could go do a search but i'm too lazy. =)
