torque wrench on keyed wheel lugnut

Would anyone know if it is OK to drive the keyed (theft prevention) lugnuts of 4th gen 17" alloy wheels with an impact wrench?

Usually the impact wrench driven 21mm sockets are black colour (shatter proof metal), while the Toyota adapter for the keyed lugnuts is the regular silver colour metal. Is it safe to drive this adapter using an impact wrench (through a 21mm socket)?

Discount Tire did that on mine when I had the factory rims, and every time they did, they managed to strip something.

Why do you use an impact driver? Im just curious.

Whenever anyone touches the lug nuts on any of the vehicles I own/use, I explicitly tell them to not even think of using an impact driver.

Why? Stripped bolts, broken studs, overtorking, the list can go on.....

Nope, the key that comes with a locking lug set is not designed to handle an impact wrench at all (neither are the nuts). I sell replacement lug keys every day that an impact wrench has destroyed. they do make "shop quality" keys that are hardened steel and much stronger, yet will still break. and if you don't break the key you will strip the nuts!!!! stock keys should only be used with hand tools and follow the specs for torquing (the specs that came with the lug key, not the car)
