I have a 93 pickup with the 22re...I was wondering if I could block off the EGR at the exhaust manifold that runs to the back of the intake manifold?? Will this throw a code? Im in Ca and have to pass tight emissions but I could always unblock it before I go in for smog.

The reason I want to do this is because I just had the intake manifold apart and couldn't beleive how much grime and soot (sp?) there was caked inside. The indside of the throttle body was also completly covered in grime. I took it in and got it bead blasted which removed it all and don't want it to happen again.

 

2 things, you'll run very rich with out it plugged in, your truck won't want to idle well on cold starts.. other then that.. you'll have to reset your idle speed too.

 

Idle speed as in take the cover off the vafm and adjust it?

that line that runs from the exhaust manifold over to the intake has nothing to do with the EGR, it is a air injection line, the EGR comes out of the back passenger side of the head, plugging it will do nothing to affect idle quality, the EGR's main and only purpose is to reduce cylinder temps at cruise, to reduce the emission NOx

 

EGR helps with gas mileage. as a matter of fact, i'd probably hook mine up if there was an easy way to do it without the rat's nest of vacuum lines and modulators that my engine uses to actuate it.

it also helps lower combustion chamber temps since it mixes inert gas(exhaust) with the air/fuel charge, less to burn. of course if that was running all the time you'd get terrible performance, but that's why it's a valve and not just plumbed straight into the intake it mainly kicks on when cruising.

 

Ya I was talking about plugging the tube I have circled in yellow in the pic at the exhuast manifold. Would this effect anything? Wanted your input before I tried it, it should be easy to plug.
