flashing cruise control light

ok has anybody had a problem like this?

sometimes but not always, if i try to turn on my cruise control, it will start flashing and not turn on.

when i push the "on" button it doesn't flash, but once i hit the "set" button, it will flash and not turn on. it seems to be happening more, now that i have 33's. because of this, i thought maybe it would have to do with the rpm's, but even if i downshift to 4th, it will still happen.

this is on a 94 4Runner 3.0 manual.

anybody got any answers?

Maybe it just doesn't have enough power to keep up the speed? When I used my CC going up a hill (the first and only time) it couldn't keep up the speed (even though it downshifted) so it just shut off. I didn't notice if the light was blinking or not. BTW I have an auto.

I have been having some issues like that with mine. I have also found that turning the 4Runner off, than on again solves them for the moment...

It might have thrown a code so I'd check that first to point you in the right direction.

Any update on this? My 97 just started doing this, but it won't work at all now.

hahahahahaha made the mistake of trying to replace my u-joints. took my friend and i all day just to take one out and get the new one half way in. then it wasn't really working right and the zerk wasn't angled so you couldn't get the grease gun on it. so i took it to a driveshaft shop and got taken for a ride and paid out the asshole. it sucked. so be sure you grease your u-joints every 3,000 or so miles and save yourself $380

How to pull the CC trouble codes... On mine two main probems I have had are the clutch switch being adjusted too tight, would pop out of cruise if you hit a bump that rattled the cluch pedal. The other problem was the ground connection that is right next to the CC module. That would cause the CC to drop out and forget the MPH setting and/or not lock in at all. Remove the ground wires, wire brushed them all and put them back in place and now it works perfect.

FWIW, mine turned out to be a blown brake light fuse. It probably burned out with the ratty Uhaul trailer I towed last week. Odd that the only "in car" indicator was the flashing CC light. I drove from Northern Va to NYC and back with no brake lights.

Anyway, it took me extra long to find the fuse because Toyota labels it "STOP" instead of "Brakes". It took me a while to make the connection and check that fuse. One 10amp fuse later, everything was fine.
