My 86 4Runner sags really bad (obviously). I had an 87 and I put 1 1/2 inch pro comp add a leafs in the rear and it was ok until it started to sag again about 6 months later. Does anyone know of better add a leafs, also what is the biggest add a leaf made. i.e 2 or 3 inches? 86 4runner dlx 208k .020 over otherwise all stock

 

I put in the Rancho 'Soft Ride' leafs - used both leaves, left in all of the stock leaves and gained 2 - 3 inches in the rear. Since the spacers/bushings between the leaves are probably shot, get some UHMWPU (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (or is it polyurethane?)) to replace the originals and add as needed. If you don't, the leaves will squeek on every bump. The ride will be much improved over what you've got now, however.

 

Yes, the Soft Rides are a pretty good kit, you get 2 pair of leaves so it gives you a few combinations of ride height and quality. See page 8 below:

Anybody know what length u-bolts for a 3" aal?

 

Most AAL springs will be 1/2" thick or less, so that much longer than what you have now, but your existing u-bolts may have at least that much exposed threads and could be used as long as you can get them apart w/o stripping the threads:

I was unable to reuse my old Ubolts. They were way too short. 1989 4Runner V6 100% STOCK.

 

Btw, Rancho no longer offers the soft ride leafs, so this thread is very outdated
