Question How HOT are you??? Tranny temp I mean.....

Those of you with auto 3rd gens and Tranny temp guages, what is your average temp, say after at least 20 min of driving level in 50-70 degree weather? I'm just trying to get a baseline comparison. Please state if you are SC'd and/or Tranny Cooler'd.

Thanks!

This is a write up of what I did that I have pm'd to a couple people:

"I got one of those Lotek dual pillar pods, and an Autometer Tranny temp gauge. The gauge had its own sending unit that I mounted in a common brass plumbing "T" that I got at a hardware store. The tee was threaded on all three ends and the sending unit screwed right into one the top. I then got a couple fittings for the hoses to clamp onto that screwed into the remaining ends of the tee. I then just cut the hot line from the tranny (as close as to the tranny as I could get) and spliced this into place. Its kind of bulky so I used wire ties to make sure it didn't get near belts.

The only real problem I had is that the sending unit HAS to be grounded. I did the "I'm in a hurry" ghetto job of just wrapping the whole unit with stripped wire and zip tieing it into place. Then ran the other end to the battery. If I would've had more time I'd have brazed a bolt to the tee so the wire could be better attached. But it has held up for 10k and a year, so I must've done something right."

Currenty I have the stock thermostat, with a Haydne tranny cooler. My temp seems to hover 120-140ish on average. My URD kit with the cooler thermostat is sitting in my office right now waiting for some TLC from IPT before I install. When towing my fj40 its has passed 220 though...

One part of the URD kit is a 170 degreeet-stat. that should help w/ the overheating during towing, plus the extra power should compensate for some of the added weight.

Since i added the t-stat my factory gauge is always cold. That thing is worhtless anyways...

Ya, between the 170 and the VB upgrade I should be fine. I just kind of want to compare other people's numbers to see how accurate my setup is, and to also get an idea how the number relates to other mods. If everyone else says they are running 100 all the time I might wonder why I'm running hotter, etc...

Hehe, ya the fatory dummy light is sweet isn't it? The damn tranny would explode before that thing went off...
