HELP! I hooked my battery up backwards

Hey, I'm an idiot, i was replacing the battery in my 84 4runner (carburated 22-r engine) the terminals were on opposite sides as the last battery and I hooked them up backwards and now it won't start. First there was nothing, then I replaced a blown fuesable link and the starter turns but there is no spark. Someone told me i probably fried my igniter so I bought a used coil and igniter and swapped them in. I think they are good but don't know how to test the igniter (the coil is within resistance tolerances). but still no spark? If it wasn't the igniter what else could I have blown, or how do I check? Thanks for any help anyone might have

Just gotta say I love your name. 84batteryidiot--that's a classic! As for your truck, just make sure you check all the fuses, as well as for any signs of melted wires, etc. No spark definately means something wrong with the ignition system. What did it do when you hooked the terminals up backwards? Sorry I can't be of more assistance. I've had my fair share of electrical mishaps. Someone else will chime in...

Gotta say SEARCH - not to be a dick but because when I first started here there was a guy who did the very same thing and went through a lot of struggle to get it fixed.

Go find that thread and save your self some trouble

My Jeep actually has two fuseable links...your truck might too. I think one goes to the ignition and one to the starter. I accidentally shorted out my alternator trying to hook it up...forgot to disconnect the Negative cable.

DUH!

It blew only one but I saw the other one when I changed the blown one. I had a really nice fireworks show!

A freind did this and he had to replace the fuseable link the EFI fuse and the computer.

He got a computer online at a salvage yard for $75.

Hope it is just the fuse.
