I see there are 3 attaching points for the front Taco mudguards ... 2 of which are clearly identifiable. For the 3rd mounting point I will have to create a hole in the cladding on my Limited. Is there any kind of pilot hole behind the cladding in the fender or am I going to have to drill a new hole? Are people using plastic butterfly plugs, sheet metal self-theading screws or a bolt and nut? I know this sounds like a stupid request but I figure if someone can lend the experience of when they did it, I am going to listen.

 

If I were you i'd drill a small hole and use a sheetmetel screw. If this cladding is metal thread the screw but leave some room to put clear silicone in before you tighten it down to help fight rust.

 

Don't drill into your body, mudflaps are sacrificial. I would just make a hole in the mudflap to line it up with the third (center) hole. Like this:

From what I see, it's the most outboard mounting hole that does not line up with any existing hole. The middle hole and the inner tab with the bend in it both line up with bolt holes. It looks as though you had to drill into your cladding to attach that outer tab, but what was behind the cladding ... sheet metal?

I was just trying to figure out what I was going to encounter behind the cladding when I drill into it on the outside tab location. I alsways try to use existing holes and make installations look as stock as possible. Thank you both for your inputs.

 

Hmmm... yours must be different than mine then. On mine, the innermost and outter most holes line up, and the middle hole just needs to be enlarged/moved on the mudflap. Sorry, wish I could help more...
